Pictures taken at the recovery of George the beached baby sperm whale on Wednesday 8th August 2001.

Locals and vacationers keep the George the baby sperm whale afloat for approx. 6 hours.

Sky Trak Fork lift, supplied by Contractors Depot ,turns up with a custom made deck to lift George from the water.

Mattresses supplied by Tiffin Interiors are placed on the decking to avoid damaging the George.

It took a bunch of strong guys to get the George onto the deck.

George is on the deck.  The crew from Gulf World check him over to make sure he is comfortable before the ride over the dunes.

Heading out across the dunes to the vehicle which will take him to The Clearwater Marine Aquarium

The whale was lifted from the fork lift and gently laid in the U-haul truck acquired by the Apalachicola Estuarine Crew.

The Gulf world crew making sure he is ready for the 6 hour drive.

Here you can see the damage to the tail of the whale.  It's not yet been released how this damage occurred.

Our local Vet, Hobson Fulmer. administering an injection to keep the whale calm and less in less during the journey to the marine aquarium in Clearwater  Click on this link to get updates of how George is doing.
